Dad’s birthday is tonight.
I lighted a candle for him and taking a walk.
Elbow loved it here.
I wonder if Santa will bring me a puppy.

I am teaching myself to hand stitch silk.
It is a slow process for me. The wool is much more forgiving. But I like the look of the line of the handstitched better it seems like the sewing machine just destroys this delicate fabric. The stitch scarves are inspired by Boro. much of it is repurposed and vintage silk .
We had snow yesterday
I have been hand stitching my scarves; this gives new impetus

Grief does things to the psyche. I think it rewires the hard drive.

Quiet
My cathedral is the pines, straight and true
I was reminded of Desiderata today.
Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and […]
Wood and fringed polygala
Sculptures that my dad created over a period between 1987-now, and fringed polygala. You can read about polygala here. My last walk with my father, we searched for and found fringed polygala on Squam Lakes conservation land. He loved the land and the earth and his work and life were testimonials to his belief in […]

Early Studies for Repurpose Series
This photo is the beginning of one of my 2015 pieces, ” For Dad”(private title) “Renewal” (title for the label) Fits and starts of the boro sensibility, experimentation with different materials, the interrelationship of the wool and the jacquard.

Goodbye Elbow.
We loved you so much. Elbow left us permanently July 9, 2013. You will never be forgotten.
In Sudbury.
It’s just starting to rain. It wasn’t supposed to.
Time to go onto the Dock.
Sun on the lake, perfect weather!! Healing rest time.
It is sun and calm.
The sun came out for a minute this morning…
although the wind is back with the gray sky, now. I am just as glad; I might get my project finished and off in the mail today without the distraction of the placid, sunny lake
Time to go for a row.
Rain.
This was once a tree.
Mop rinse squeeze. Scent of pine.
My grandmother used the same bucket and mop on the same floor. I remember. Continuity of generations.
Paradise at last
Mine totally didnt do it justice
I went wading the other morning.
Ha!!! Would like to identify these flowers. They were in the Cove at Squam.

ProChem
I am really looking forward to Pro Chem this summer. A fantastic studio and space for you to make any new work or do projects and learn new things combining with what you are already doing. Quilters, this is made for you!
Red chair on ice
I could imagine a slideshow of this posture on this chair in many different settings…on the beach, on the mountain top, in a city street, on top of a building, on the back of a ramp truck…..one slide after the other. (Oh I should mention its my brother. Clearly we have a lot in common.) […]

This is on the appalachian trail up by iron mountain. It is a cow drinking thing I think like a cistern.
Ki-mono Reconstruction
I am very fond of boro. The month my father died, I was studying with Yoshiko Wada, in a workshop with an intense focus on boro textiles, history, philosophy and technique. Slowly, this sensibility is beginning to creep back into my work; and oddly enough, conceptually, seeds of ideas, past fits and starts, and half […]
There are still openings for my Workshop Scheduled at Pro Chemical and Dye July 8-12.
We will look at resist techniques on protein fibers and learn to use acid dyes. Whether you are a weaver, felter, spinner, or dyer, you will get something great from this workshop! If you are a beginner, you will come away knowing how to use the dyes, if you are advanced, we will do in […]
I plan to clear off the studio table today.
We will see how it goes. I am preparing to begin my new body of work for 2014
I get to share this wonderful father

the life of the grass
This is the kind of thing I am thinking of now. I dont know where it will go. Often the imagery is in a nebulous place first. I want to focus on grasses and maybe the minimalist quality, contrast of land and sky, but yet the evidence of the life of the grass through the […]
