58/365: Sun Appears

I have been in the house two weeks, only out twice. Now the sun is coming out and will melt this snow away. Probably will not see any again until next year.

56/365 Cows Dwarfed by the Mountain

Sometimes I am just overwhelmed by the scale of things as I pass by. The hills are steep and rise sharply out of the meadows. The cows look very small against the mountainside

52/365: Brown Blue Gray

[singlepic id=124 w= h= float=none]
I have had such fun this week exploring tones. These images of the country side are almost black and white even without doing anything to them. I was always taught early on my first photographer teacher was all about capturing the shot and the full frame.

27/365: Cold Sunrise

The snow was piling up in New England. Here in Stoney Creek we had echoes, flurries, and cold sunshine.

9/365: What Happens When a House is Dismantled

Humans leave detritus. What will an archaeologist find in 5000 years?
As an aside, I discovered the reflection in the window afterwards.

8/365: Magenta Hills

The mountains really are this color sometimes. When we first moved to Tennessee I used to call it the impossible colors.

106 on the hill

This is the house across the street. We are moving here and I hope to turn the other one into a studio. The landlord really wanted us to move into this one because he wanted someone who would take care of it.

12 of 12: A breathless morning in August

Twelve of Twelve. A breathless morning in August for August twelfth. Work to be done, work in progress, the work of living, things growing, close to the earth

This mushroom is six inches across Wood waits to be cut and split Stacked and drying, ready to go into the cellar The lush growth down in the holler. Things grow when you turn around Black walnut dye has fermented for two years A writing spider built a web on the clothesline Tomatoes ripening Zucchini tiny and growing Laundry waiting to be hung The corn is taller than Nora's head crabapple graft is ripe for apple jelly The Panzer and the lawn tractor waiting to do their jobs

Views at the Hill

Here is a picture of the red barn at the bottom of the hill by my house,  as seen from the road I walk on to my studio. My studio is past this, turn a corner onto the road below, and walk back to just below my house at the bottom of the hill.  Because of this, every time I walk from the house to the studio there are new things to see and new things that enter the work.  I have found, over the years, that I am deeply rooted in time and place. I can work in any place; but whatever that place is, it becomes embedded in the visual syntax.
