Jacquard: Squam

These are some Jacquard fabrics that were created from photographs of Great Island in the early morning. First I photographed, then painted and drew.  I scanned the drawings into the computer and then created six end satin weaves from this.  It is an end on end warp and at that time, at Rhode Island School of Design, the loom was new and Phil, the operator, would allow us to bring as many yarns as we wanted so I had twelve weave structures to play with and unlimited yarn mixing.  It is an end on end black white upholstery warp and it is a 27 inch repeat, so will work for upholstery.

More of my Jacquard collections can be found here.

Time Scheduling Being in the World

The water droplets  on this iris bud appeared at 5:30 last night.  I am certain that this bud existed precisely as this photo captured it for less time than it takes me to write this sentence.  There are so many things in the world.  In order to find my path, I need to schedule time to look at it.  Today I squeezed in half an hour for concentration. I posted today’s schedule below.  I can reflect, tonight, if I deviated, and, if so, why.image image

Megadrought

My newest body of work is all about water. And I have been working on this for several years; timely, as it turns out.

Mars lost ocean of water to space

Mars lost ocean of water to space

About 4 billion years ago, a primitive ocean on Mars held more water than Earth’s Arctic Ocean, say researchers, but Mars has lost 87 percent of it to space.

It doesn’t snow very often here and the water does not freeze over. I felt lucky to capture this pond. Luckily the bull has been taken away for the winter.

The sun came out for a minute this morning…

although the wind is back with the gray sky, now. I am just as glad; I might get my project finished and off in the mail today without the distraction of the placid, sunny lake

Rain on the lake

Rain on the lake

In center harbor, at the Library. Spent my first night at squam last night. Peace, joy, serenity. As I walked into center harbor to do some work today, the carillon was playing a hymn in the square. All is well.
